The Sand Bar

The ocean can be holding a surprise any time you get in. The cool ocean breeze blew through my hair, and the warm sun on my face felt good. The sand shifted under my feet from the vibrations of the waves as they hit the sand about 30 feet from me. Then I remembered that I wasn't alone; I was with my brother Matt.

As I ran for the ocean, I turned around to ask Matt a question and tripped and did a perfect face plant in the sand. I heard laughter behind me, and I felt hot and bubbly inside and a little embarrassed too. We ran out into the water, and I started paddling as fast as I could to beat him. I felt the cool water rush past my feet as I picked up speed, and I could feel the water get colder as it got deeper.

In my mind I was trying to think of a move I could do to show off for my older brother. As I got to the surf line, I started to sit up, and my feet got this nasty scratching feeling. As I sat up and looked down, the water wasn't dark any more, and I could see a sand bar.

Now I was stuck on a sand bar with my big brother who loved to make fun of me. All of a sudden a devious plan popped in my head as he got closer; he was going to go past the sand bar and catch a wave and go flipping head over heels when he hit the sand bar. It was going to be sweet revenge for all his teasing! I started cracking up when he hit the sand bar, the board stopped, and he flipped into the water. I quickly kicked off the sand bar and grabbed a wave. I ran back to the house before he could get me, but later that night when I was telling the perfect story, he got his revenge. I was laying down on the top level of the bunk bed and was thinking about how cunning I was to trick him like that, when, out of nowhere, he came over and picked me up. My mind sort of went blank as I tried to figure out what he was doing, but I woke up as I was dropped right in the cold ocean - pj's and all. This was my favorite memory over break.
