Times Square

The icy wind whipped against my face. It was -4 degrees F. My mom and sister and I were in Times Square walking to The Phantom of the Opera. It went through my clothes like they weren't there; my cheeks were rosy and numb. I was in slacks and a sport coat, and they don't make the best winter gear. The smell of hotdogs and other fast foods drifted from the numerous vendors on the corners. The foul smelling steam from the sewers mixed with the food odors.

When I first walked into Times Square, I was shocked; it was so bright that even though it was night, it seemed like day. It was like the sun, but in all different colors. There were about 50 advertisements. Some of them were moving, some changed, and some of them stayed still. I watched little blocks replaced the other little blocks very gradually so the effect was two advertisements were showing at the same time.

My neck throbbed from looking at all of the tall buildings. The huge image of Jack and the Beanstalk was 20 feet tall. There were about 10 billboards advertising various musical plays. They shone with all of the colors of the rainbow so that my eyes hurt. The sounds of people talking and horns honking were so that I couldn't hear my mom talking to me even though she was right next to me. I was so happy that I was seeing one of the most famous places in the world.
