Sunny, my Bunny

The strong grip of my brother's arms hurt as he pushed me onto the bed. I could feel the thudding of my heart as I yelled at him. I just wanted to go and feed my rabbit. My brother left the room and raced into the kitchen to talk to my dad. I didn't know what was happening.

My dad's footsteps were slow and heavy as he walked into the room. As he sat down, expressionless on the bed. I knew that it was bad news. My bunny had died. I jumped up and ran. The warm tears ran down my face as I cried into my pillow. I finally went outside and saw Sunshine, my bunny, just lying there. It looked as if she was only resting, but she wasn't. I bent down and gave her a hug. I did not care what everyone else thought.

My dad had told me that we could have a funeral, so I invited my best friend Ali. As it got dark, we started the funeral. I saw tears coming down people's faces. I could feel the cold wind touching my skin. I had written a secret note to Sunshine and covered it with baby roses, and I burned it so the ashes could be spread across her grave. After the funeral I marked her grave with a golden bow. Now every Christmas Eve I will remember how much I loved her.
